New Year
New Year is a special occasion for
the people of India. It is a time to sing, drink, dance and making all the
merriment. On New Year's Eve, special parties are organized that last until
late into the night. It has become a tradition to greet the new at midnight
in the company of friends and family. Some people just like to watch TV in
the comfort of their home, which is their special way to greet the New Year
away from the noisy party atmosphere.
When all the celebrations are over its time to make resolution, which is a
list of decisions about how to live in the coming year. Resolutions include
the promise to lose weight or quit smoking and among the students the most
popular resolution is to devote more time to their studies.
The celebration of the New Year is among the oldest of all holidays. It was
first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around
2000 BC, Babylonians celebrated the beginning of a New Year. Since then it
celebrated every year with the same zeal and enthusiasm.
