TAJ MAHAL
A
Love Story Etched in Marble
Taj Mahal is an expression of a dream. The white marble mausoleum is a
symbol of love combined with monumental passion in imperial times. It houses
the grave of Queen Mumtaz at the lower chamber of the building. Several
centuries have gone by but its architectural excellence has never been
surpassed. Standing on the bank of river Yamuna it tells the story of a
man's deep love for his wife.
Mughal emperor Shahjahan built this excellent mausoleum in the memory of
his beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal who died during childbirth. He brought the
most skilled architects and workers from all over the Asia and even from
Europe to make his signature of love. The construction work stretched over a
period of 22 years under the supervision of Ustad Isa, the renowned Islamic
architect of his time. It was completed in 1648 C.E. and cost around 32
million rupees.
